Who we are
Companion Cows began after two special newborn dairy calves, Frankie & Fletcher, were rescued from a dairy farm in Lutruwita (Tasmania) when they were less than 1 week of age.
Born male, unable to produce milk, the farmer had plans to send Frankie and Fletcher to slaughter. 3 Years on, Frankie and Fletcher are grown and are adored by Companion Cows Co-founder Krystal Camilleri and her family. Their rescue sparked an idea and inspired the first-ever organisation dedicated exclusively to the rescue and rehoming of dairy cows & their babies.
Companion Cows now operates Australia wide, run by a group of passionate volunteers who all want to create a kinder world for dairy cows and their babies.
Our Mission
Our mission is to be transformative in the lives of dairy cows and their babies through rescue, rehoming, and representation. An unwavering voice for the ones we liberate, the ones we lose & the ones we leave behind.
Our Values
Compassion
We seek to inspire others to make conscious choices for dairy cows & their babies by breaking down barriers and paving a pathway to kindness.
Commitment
We are willing to go above and beyond for the animals. We are focused and dedicated on large scale change; we never give up.
Impact
We seek to confront deep rooted conditioning and challenge people to question how they think and talk about dairy cows. We are advocates for compassion and aim to empower consumers to make kinder choices.
Integrity
We act honestly & ethically, keeping the animals at the heart of everything we do. We choose courage over comfort, speak, and represent the truth. We hold each other accountable to our values and mission at all times.

Meet the Founders
Our names are Krystal and Phoebe, and we share an unbreakable bond and a common purpose—to end the suffering and exploitation of dairy cows and their precious babies.
Krystal Camilleri
Phoebe Wisken
Krystal's journey started in 2020 when, without any prior knowledge or experience in animal rescue, she decided to save two five-day-old bull calves, Frankie and Fletcher, from the horrors of slaughter. The love and connection Krystal felt with these little ones ignited a determination to save more innocent lives like theirs.
Destiny intervened, bringing Krystal and Phoebe together through another animal rescue charity, igniting a flame of shared purpose and deepening our compassion for these remarkable animals.
With her vast experience in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming thousands of animals, Phoebe became an invaluable source of support for Krystal.
Under Phoebe's guidance, Krystal learned the art of nurturing and raising newborn calves without their mothers, strengthening their bond rooted in love and care.
After two transformative years, Krystal founded Companion Cows, and it wasn't long before Phoebe joined her on this vital mission.
Today, we operate Companion Cows as a team. Krystal, based in Tasmania, balancing a young family, three dairy rescues (Frankie, Fletcher, and Maggie), and a business—pours her heart into making a difference.
Based in New South Wales, Phoebe juggles a part-time job and caring for her twin bovine babies, Bart and Missy, bringing her unwavering dedication to our cause.
Companion Cows, born in a small county town in Tasmania, has emerged as Australia's pioneering non-profit and registered charity dedicated to rescuing, rehoming, and advocating for Australian dairy cows and their babies.
Since our humble beginnings in 2022, our presence has grown, establishing foster stations in Tasmania, Victoria, and New South Wales as we continue to expand our reach.
While our mission at Companion Cows is to rescue and bring awareness to the lives of dairy cows, we hold a collective dream close to our hearts. We envision a future where Companion Cows and organisations like ours will no longer be necessary. It is a dream where dairy cows are no longer used, exploited, and subjected to cruelty for profit and human gain.
Our ultimate goal is to create a world where the suffering of dairy cows becomes a thing of the past. Through our advocacy efforts, rescue initiatives, and the compassionate choices we inspire in others, we are working towards a brighter tomorrow, where the exploitation of dairy cows becomes a thing of the past.
